I have been researching and compiling anecdotes, pictures, and documents of my great uncle so that I can pass it on to my many nieces and nephews. I will be sure to include your review so that many generations of Robert Harron family members will be aware of the important and pioneering role he played in the formation of the motion picture industry.
Thank you,
James KileyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030581813270650551.post-66558231456725645632012-05-18T11:39:12.697-07:002012-05-18T11:39:12.697-07:00I'm researching the use of poems in silent fil...I'm researching the use of poems in silent films. Griffith's "Pippa Passes", "After Many Years" and "Enoch Arden" are the ones I've found so far. It would appear the original version of DETECTIVE COMICS(before Batman) was entirely devoted to SPIES and Mabuse riffs.

And then there's design, like in Caligari, very comic-like. And storytelling technique. Eisenstein's montage technique, for instance, applies very easily to comics. In fact, only speaking for myself, as a cartoonist(who's adapting LULU, actually, though mine's not at all like Louise--online at jlroberson.org , btw), I find silent film technique much more instructive and useful as inspiration than sound film. All cartoonists should be forced to watch nothing but silents for a six-month period at some point.jlrobersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10392794912432288906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030581813270650551.post-89666947857673996952010-03-18T15:18:12.204-07:002010-03-18T15:18:12.204-07:00nterview with Ben Model, silent film pianist and h...nterview with Ben Model, silent film pianist and historian.

Learn about the important role music plays in all kinds of films, especially silent films! There's plenty in the book that wasn't put to film. But leave the original on it's mantle. Bow to it as you pass but don't touch it unless you're restoring what's been lost.
